GILGIT: Three more political activists, including Awami Workers Party’s senior leader Baba Jan, were released from Ghizer jail on Friday evening.

The two other Hunza-based activists released from the district jail were Karakoram National Movement’s Iftikhar Karbalai and Shakoor Ullah Baig.

So far, 14 political prisoners from Hunza have been released as per assurance of the caretaker ministers of the Gilgit-Baltistan who had signed an agreement with the people of Hunza in Aliabad area in order to persuade them to call off their protest last month.

Thousands of people had participated in a seven-day sit-in in Hunza in October, nearly a month before the scheduled elections for Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly. They called off the protest after the caretaker ministers assured their representatives that the incarcerated youth would be released within two months.
