QUETTA: No clue was found on Sunday of missing Prof Dr Liaquat Sani, the head of Brahvi Department of Balochistan University, who was kidnapped on Saturday.
Some unidentified armed men kidnapped Dr Sani along with two other teachers of Balochistan University, when they were traveling to Khuzdar for inspection of an examination centre as members of the vigilance committee of the university.
The two other teachers — Prof Shabbir Ahmed Shahwani and Professor Nizam Shahwani — were, however, released by the kidnappers after two hours at an abandoned place in a mountainous area.
Official sources said that members of intelligence agencies and security forces were searching various suspected areas in the light of the statement given by two teachers released by the kidnappers.
Prof Shabbir Shahwani told the media that he, along with Dr Liaquat Sani and Professor Nizam, were going to Khuzdar in a car for inspection of BA/BSc examination centre when some armed men signaled the car to stop near the Chuto area of Mastung.
He said the gunmen travelling in three cars dragged “us out of the car and moved us into their vehicles. They also blindfolded us after beating us in the car”.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, National Party president Dr Malik Baloch and members of civil society and student organisations have condemned the kidnapping of the professor and demanded his immediate recovery.
The Academic Staff Association of Balochistan University also condemned the kidnapping of Dr Liaquat Sani.
The association’s president Prof Dr Kaleemullah has given a deadline to the government for recovery of the missing professor and threatened to boycott the ongoing BA/BSc examinations if the kidnapped professor is not recovered within 24 hours.
