ISLAMABAD: A milk shop owner was shot dead in in the suburbs of Islamabad on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Alipur Farash and the victim was identified as Qari Usman.

Koral police SHO Inspector Bashir told Dawn that the victim owned a milk shop near his house at Dhok Diptian and was a local leader of a religious party.

Later, the attacker(s) escaped from the scene, the inspector said, adding that after getting the information police reached the spot and shifted the body to hospital for medico-legal.

After the autopsy the body was handed over to victim’s family, he said, adding that a murder case was registered at the Koral police station in response to a complaint lodged by victim’s brother.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Operation constituted a special team to investigate the incident and identify and trace the killer(s), the police said.

Superintendent of Police Investigation is chairman of the team, which includes, SP Rural Zone, DSP CIA, DSP Nilore Circle, SHO Koral and investigating officer of Homicide Unit Koral, they added.
