RAWALPINDI: The wreath laying ceremony of the 1971 war martyr, Major Shabbir Sharif shaheed, Nishan-i-Haider, was held at his monument in Lahore to pay homage for the supreme sacrifice that he rendered in the line of duty.

Maj Gen Raza Aizad laid the floral wreath on behalf of Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, said an Inter-Services Public Relations press release.

The ceremony was attended by the relatives of the martyr.

Earlier, the director general of ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar paid tribute to Maj Shabbir, a recipient of the Sword of Honour, Sitara-i-Jurrat in 1965 War, and Nishan-i-Haider in 1971 War.

“He symbolises valour and patriotism. His heroic actions in 1965 and 1971 wars remind us [that] it’s not numbers but faith, devotion and courage in adversity which make nations triumph,” the ISPR chief wrote in his tweet followed by the hashtag #OurMartyrsOurHeroes.
