GUJRAT: The number of voters in Gujrat district has crossed the two million mark as 90,928 new voters have been registered in the district after July 2018 elections.

District Election Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed said at a seminar held in connection with the national voters day here on Monday there were 1.9 million voters in Gujrat for the 2018 general elections which has now increased to two million).

He said that the voters could examine the lists available at the office of the district election commission in Model Town whereas the voters could also check their names through sending a text message on 8300 so that those who were still missing in these lists could get them registered as a voter or could shift their votes from one place to another without any delay.

He said that the initial voters list for the upcoming elections of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly had also been released and lists would be prepared by Dec 15.

He said that the assistant registration officers for the three tehsils of Gujrat district for the preparations of voters of AJK Assembly polls had also been appointed.

The AJK assembly will complete its five years term in July 2021. Kashmiris residing in Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin districts and Wazirabad tehsil comprise the LA 34 constituency of AJK Legislative Assembly.
