LAHORE: Top seed Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan had won the men’s doubles final in the 5th Hasan Tariq Tennis Championships at the Lahore Gymkhana course here on Thursday.

Aqeel is also eying a second gold as he had also qualified for the men’s singles final.

On a hectic day, Aqeel first won the doubles’ semifinals with Shehzad, beating the pair of brothers Mudassar and Muzamil to win the semifinals with the score being 6-4, 6-3. Then in the final, they faced duo Mohammad Abid-Muhamamd Waqas Malik to win the three setters 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Aqeel, in his third match of the day, also toppled Yousaf Khalil in the men’s singles semi-final 6-2, 6-2.

In the ladies’ singles, both top-ranked players of Pakistan — Ushna Sohail and Sarah Mehboob — set the date for the final. Ushna scored a straightway win against Esha Jawad 6-0, 6-1 while Sarah saw off Noor Malik 6-1, 6-2.

Men’s doubles semi-finals:

Aqeel Khan/Shehzad Khan beat Muzamil Murtaza/Mudassar Murtaza 6-4,6-3;

Muhammad Abid/Muhammad Waqas Malik beat Heera Ashiq/Yousaf Khalil 6-3,7-6.

Men’s singles semifinals:

Aqeel Khan beat Yousaf Khalil 6-2,6-2; Muzamil Murtaza beat Mudassar Murtaza 6-3,6-2.

Ladies Singles semifinals:

Sarah Mehboob beat Noor Malik (ZTBL) 6-1,6-2; Ushna Sohail beat Esha Jawad 6-0,6-1.
