LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro confirmed on Monday that PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and other leaders of Pakistan Democratic Movement would participate in the 13th death anniversary of the assassinated PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Dec 27.
He told a press conference after presiding over mazar committee meeting at Larkana Press Club that the opposition leaders were expected to raise voice against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government at the gathering at Bhuttos’ mausoleum. He expected a massive turnout of people on the day.
He said that resignations by opposition parties’ members would make the parliament a hollow forum and prime minister himself was to blame for the scenario because it was he who had been making light of the importance of parliament in past.
He dismissed possibility of imposition of governor’s rule in Sindh in consequence of resignations by ruling party MPAs and said that 18th Amendment had blocked unilateral imposition of governor’s rule. According to the Constitution, governor’s rule could not be declared without prior approval by the assembly concerned, he said.
He said that all members of PDM supported 18th Amendment and provincial autonomy. If a charter were inked among the parties’ leaders on the PDM forum, formation of a truth and reconciliation commission would be incorporated in it as its main component, he said.
He said that ending the role of the establishment in the country’s affairs and the establishment of a federal constitutional court would be key articles of the proposed commission. “We only want early election held in a transparent manner and the popular political party to form government,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Sheikh, Aijaz Jakhrani, divisional president of PPP Larkana, MNA Khursheed Junejo, Hizbullah Bughio and others.
