QUETTA: Pakistan Customs burnt smuggled and contraband goods said to be worth around Rs4 billion at a ceremony held in Kuch Mor, a locality on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

The contraband goods included 3,542 kilograms of narcotics, 554 bottles of liquor, 1,350 tonnes of gutka, 1,943 tonnes of betel nuts, Chinese salts, expired cosmetics and foodstuff and medicines.

Chief Collector of Balochistan Customs Gul Rehman, heads of law enforcement agencies, including Frontier Corps, Anti-Narcotics Force and Balochistan police, and senior officials of customs and other departments attended the ceremony held on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Gul Rehman extolled the customs department for its efforts to ensure seizure of smuggled and contraband goods and called upon the officers and staff of the MCC (Preventive) to rid society of the menace of narcotics and remain vigilant against the changing trends of smuggling.

He also appreciated law enforcement agencies for assisting the customs department in its anti-smuggling efforts.
