Electric vehicles top priority, says Fawad

ISLAMABAD: The government is working on promoting manufacturing of electric vehicles in the country, said Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Husain at the 23rd Sustainable Development Conference organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) here on Thursday.
He said the government has three top priorities — agriculture, electronics, and manufacturing of electric vehicles.
He added that the electric technology has affected all areas of traditional economy while adding that advanced countries are working on both civil and defense engineering advancement.
He was of the view that the investment-based health sector should be promoted and private partners should be encouraged to invest as it has huge potential.
The minister further said that he has been a great advocate of privatisation and wants the government should limit itself only to regulation.
He said that we must promote local partnerships, especially in manufacturing solar panels and batteries with China.
About synchronising academia with industries, the minister said that at least 40 universities have been tasked to adopt schools for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

EV is the game changer and it would change the world politics. Free of oil dependency , saving billions of dollars will be a new era of development for poorer oil dependent third world. Implantation of ev policy should be done urgently as advance ev can now compete with oil guzzling vehicles. Pakistan energy resources would be adequate for this purpose. Added benefit of pollution free environments is a giant plus . We should strife for breaking the chains of oil bill and related politics.

@Critic , Keep a close watch despite famous indian conniving , Pak ev is coming. After Pakistan's nuclear, fighter jets, ballistic missile technology next on the list is EV . Impossible ? Not really infact some private companies are already on advance stages of local production of ev.

Hope Minister sahab was briefed that for Electric cars you need charging infrastructure plus uninterrupted power from utilities company.
How the Electric car owners will charge their cars on the streets? Only limited houses with garages can manage charging.
The focus should be to provide uninterrupted power to all, then focus on solar winds power. All Electric cars owners should be forced to install solar first before buy electric car, so charging load supported by additional solar systems.

Twenty years ago introducing "natural gas driven vehicles" was the top priority.
A large number of investors set up "natural gas filling stations for vehicles" and People got their cars fitted with gas cylinders.
After dozens of accidents due to cylinder blasts and almost finishing our natural gas, gas filling stations are now empty and the entire investment has been wasted.
So please consider all the pros and cons before jumping to "another top priority".

About half a century ago we had electric trains running from Lahore to Khanewal (which was an excellent idea).
But what happened - we didn't consider that we have shortage of electricity - now even the cables have been looted and we have completely forgotten about electric trains.
Please consider all the pros and cons before jumping to another "top national priority".
"Quick fixes" are generally "no fixes".

Burn the oil to generate electricity, use electricity to charge car batteries, is totally uneconomical. Besides wherefore money will come, as most national income is spent on debt servicing and for establishment. Making fake announcement is habit of national leaders.

There is already an acute shortage of electricity in the country! It is insufficient to meet the domestic and industrial requirement. The public faces load shedding in winter for more than 8 hours a day!
Under these circumstances to longing for electric car may be termed as Day Dreaming! The federal minister must assess and evaluate the ground realities before speaking on public policy matters

This could actually work. If one can measure the distance people drive, it is within 15-20 mile radius. A typical range for an electric car is about 200 miles on full charge. Now the question is where is the electricity is going to come from? Most electric needs a good 5-8 hour charge

Request minister Fawad Chowdry to quickly start manufacturing of cheap Solar panels and accessories so the common man can have access to o cheap electricity. It will be a big favour to the nation. Please get rid of the oil based power plants. Also to get rid of stolen energy can we introduce prepaid electricity cards system.
