Aqeel, Sarah bag Benazir tennis titles

ISLAMABAD: Veteran Aqeel Khan continued his title-winning exploits on Saturday when he defeated Muzammil Murtaza in the men’s singles final of the sixth Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championships here at the Islamabad Tennis Courts.

The 40-year-old Aqeel overwhelmed Muzammil 7-6-(7-4), 4-6, 6-1.

In the women’s singles decider, Sarah Mehboob outclassed Ushna Suhail 6-4, 6-3.

Mohammad Shoaib was declared winner of the boys 18 and under final against Ahmed Kamil 6-1, 2-0 as the latter retired while the second set was in progress. After winning the first set 6-1, Shoaib was leading the second set 2-0 when play ended.Amna Ali Qayum defeated Sheeza Sajid 3-5, 4-2, 4-1 in the girls 14 and under decider.

In the boys and girls U-12 final, Hamza Roman overcame Haniya Minhas 2-4, 4-1, 4-2 while Mohammad Hassan Usmani downed Ismail Aftab 2-4, 5-3, 5-3 in the Boys/Girls U-10 final.
