LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Saturday night sealed three slaughterhouses, a food factory, food caterer and paan shop over non-compliance.

According to a handout, in a bid to combat food adulterators, PFA teams raided Noor Dera Slaughterhouse for storing and selling rotten, unhygienic meat.

Similarly, in the Ghoray Shah area, the teams sealed two other slaughterhouses over non-compliance. The meat was seized and later discarded according to rules.

Moreover, the authority raided and sealed Waheed Desi Food Factory for using unhygienic chemicals and food colour for making various products. The premises and food production area was also swarming with insects, said PFA Director General (DG) Rafaqat Ali Nisowana.

For ignoring instructions previously given for improvement, Jhoolay Laal Pakwaan Centre in Ravi Town and Bhola Paan Shop in Kasur were sealed for selling the banned gutka.

People were encouraged to report adulteration and other crimes related to the food business as a shared responsibility, the DG maintained.
