MANSEHRA: The provincial government has shelved Mujahidin hydropower project for which the previous PTI government earmarked Rs4.269 billion in 2018.

“The PTI government had sanctioned various development projects including Mujahidin hydropower scheme for Torghar district but the present government of the party scrapped all those schemes without any solid reason,” former PTI lawmaker Zargul Khan told journalists here on Sunday.

He said that government had finalised the feasibility of the project and even earmarked Rs4.269 billion out of its total cost of Rs7 billion for its execution in 2018.

“This electricity-cum-irrigation dam planned to be built on the Barando River in Torghar could bring prosperity in the lives of locals but government scrapped it, which is unacceptable to us,”

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted to develop backward parts of the province and Chief Minister Mehmood Khan should follow suit and initiate work on those projects.

Govt accused of backing corrupt elements JUI-F leader Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri has alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government is backing the thieves, who embezzled national wealth and created sugar and wheat crisis in the country.

“The government turns its eyes away from its advisers and ministers, who looted the nation’s wealth and created shortage of sugar and wheat in the country,” he told journalists at the residence of former senator Hidaytuallh Shah here on Sunday.

He said that Pakistan Democratic Movement believed in democracy and was struggling peacefully to get rid of the PTI government. He said that government was creating a situation of confrontation in the country.

“The Election Commission of Pakistan is the only authority to decide when the Senate elections should be held and either through show of hands or secret ballot but the government is crossing all limits to foil PDM’s agitation,” said Maulana Haidri.

He said that government was involved in character assignation of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman since he brought all the opposition parties on a platform against it and launched a successful agitation.

The JUI-F leader said that time was not far off when PDM’s agitation would meet a success and the nation could get rid of the ‘corrupt’ government.
