NAROWAL: A man was shot dead by robbers near Mohlan Jabal bus stop on Zafarwal-Shakargarh Road.
Asghar Ali, 40, a government school teacher from Sathiala village on the outskirts of Zafarwal tehsil, was returning home in a taxi after dropping his relative at Sialkot airport.
The robbers had blocked the road near Mohlan Jabal bus stop. They signaled the taxi to stop but the driver did not stop it. At this, the robbers opened fire on the car.
Asghar was severely injured in the firing and he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. Asghar’s family and residents of the village blocked Zafarwal-Shakargarh Road in protest against the incident.
They set tires on fire and chanted slogans against the police for their failure to stop robberies. Traffic on Zafarwal-Shakargarh Road remained jammed for quite some time. Zafarwal DSP Malik Naveed held talks with the protesters but failed. The protesters demanded the police arrest the killers.
The protesters, including Muhammad Ashfaq and Abdul Razzaq, said 12 robbers had made their families hostage and robbed them of cash, gold and other valuables worth Rs5m near Jabal village four days ago.
Zafarwal police registered a case against unidentifi ed robbers on complaint of Asghar’s father Sabir Ali. Police sent the body to the District Headquarters Hospital Narowal for a post-mortem.
