ISLAMABAD: Though the twin cities have seen a decline in the number of daily cases, there has been no let-up in deaths as five more people lost their lives to the deadly virus on Monday.

Islamabad recorded 140 new infections on Monday compared to 212 the previous day whereas Rawalpindi district saw 52 more cases compared to 64 on Sunday.

According to capital administration officials, two more people succumbed to coronavirus in different hospitals. The deceased were residents of Rawal Town and Tarlai.

The officials said Monday’s figure of new cases was the lowest reported in the current month.

During the last 24 hours 3,916 tests were conducted in the capital out of which results of 66 women and 74 men came back positive.

The positivity rate recorded on Monday was 3.57pc compared to 3.92pc the previous day, the officials added.

According to the breakdown, 14 cases were detected in G-10, 12 in Lohi Bher, 10 in Bhara Kahu, nine in I-10, eight each in G-6 and G-8, six each in I-8 and G-9, five each in G-7, F-8 and H-13, four each in G-13, Khanna, Tarnol and H-8, three each in G-11, F-10, Chak Shahzad and D-17 and two each surfaced from Tarlai, F-11, G-5, Sohan and F-13.

Rawalpindi

Three people succumbed to Covid-19 and 52 more tested positive on Monday as 250 patients recovered from the deadly virus.

Khadim Hussain, 82, a resident of Misrial Road, had been under treatment at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology since Dec 12 but could not survive and died on Monday.

Similarly, Fatima Bibi, 80, a resident of Company Bagh Murree, was shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Dec 18 where she breathed her last on Monday.

Tariq Sharif, 60, from Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, was brought to Holy Family Hospital on Dec 19 where he died late Sunday night.With the detection of new patients on Sunday, including 35 from Rawalpindi city, the district has 863 active patients, out of which 160 are in hospitals and 703 home isolated.

Since March, 12,434 confirmed patients were reported in Rawalpindi district out of which 11,065 have been cured and 506 died.

According to the official data of Rawalpindi district, in the last 10 months, 5,522 people in the age group of 11-40 have been affected by Covid-19 and 3,560 in the age bracket of 50 years and above.

However, infants and children below the age of 11 have not been much affected as only 548 cases were reported in the district since March.

The recovery rate among young people is also high with 5,085 patients having recovered in the last 10 months whereas the recovery percentage of those over 50 years was less.

Mortality ratio among old people was the highest as 400 patients in the age group of 50 years and above have died, 66 people succumbed to the virus in the middle age group while 36 people below the age of 40 breathed their last. Only one patient below the age of 11 years died in the last 10 months.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 14,779 people had been infected since March - 12,434 in Rawalpindi, 970 in Attock, 919 in Jhelum and 456 in Chakwal.

He said 13,023 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering in the four districts while 606 have died.

Attock

A suspected Covid-19 patient died in Attock on Monday. According to sources in the health department, 54 years old Aabid Hussain, a resident of Pindigheb, breathed his last and was buried as per the standard operating procedures prepared for burial of Covid-19 victims.

On the other hand, four more people contracted the virus in the district during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 970 on Monday.

District Health Authority Chief executive Dr Jawad Elahi said three patients were residents of Attock city while one was from Hazro, adding that the number of active patients in the district was 156.

He said three suspected patients were also admitted to District Headquarters Hospital.

Responding to another question, Dr Elahi said results of 582 patients were awaited, adding that so far 789 patients had recovered.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Shahzad Mehboob paid a surprise visit to different educational institutions in Wah on Monday and found one private college violating government orders of closing down all educational institutions in view of Covid-19.
