PESHAWAR: Provincial Election Commissioner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sharifullah, on Tuesday administered oath to district returning officers (DROs) of Kurram and Nowshera districts appointed by the Election Commission of Pakistan for by-elections in NA-45, Kurram, and PK-63, Nowshera, constituencies.

Through a notification issued by the ECP, the regional election commissioner, Mardan, was appointed as DRO for NA-45, Kurram, whereas regional election commissioner, Peshawar, Fazal Hakeem, was appointed DRO for PK-63, Nowshera, by-elections.

The two officers were administered oath under the Elections Act, 2017, at the provincial office of ECP, which was also attended by joint provincial election commissioner, Haroon Shinwari.

Sharifullah said ECP would utilise all its resources to conduct free, fair and impartial by-polls. He asked the DROs to remain in contact with all the stakeholders and district administration for holding polls in a peaceful atmosphere.

Polling in the two constituencies will be held on Feb 19. The seat of NA-45 had fallen vacant with the death of then incumbent Munir Orakzai of JUI-F, whereas that of PK-63 fell vacant with the demise of MPA Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
