TAXILA: A prayer leader was shot dead in a mosque in a remote village in Pindigheb, Attock, on Sunday.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Hafiz Hassan Raza, a native of Mansehra. He was deputed as the prayer leader by the local mosque committee in Chakki. Another young man from the same locality objected the committee’s decision, stating his sleep was disturbed due to the sound of recitation from the loudspeaker.

The matter was taken up in a meeting of the mosque committee on Friday, which ignored the objection and directed the prayer leader to continue his sermon as per routine.

The suspect on Sunday entered the mosque and shot the prayer leader. The Pindigheb police have registered a murder case and started further investigation.
