RAWALPINDI: The district saw the highest number of recoveries from Covid-19 on Monday as 332 people were able to beat the virus. However, three patients lost their struggle against coronavirus and another 28 got infected.

One of the casualties was Chaudhry Riasat Hussain, 75, a resident of Railway Scheme 7. He was taken to Max Hospital on Jan 3 but died late Sunday night. Another patient, Itbar Gul, 65, a resident of Kashmir Lane, Peshawar Road, was shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Jan 3 where he succumbed to the virus on Monday. Resham Jan, 82, from Morgah, died at Fauji Foundation Hospital where she was admitted on Sunday.According to data released by the health authorities, the district has 635 active patients with 109 under treatment in hospitals and 526 home isolated As many as 483 people are awaiting results for the last four days. As many as 12,979 confirmed patients have been reported in Rawalpindi district since March, 11,789 have recovered and 555 died.

A total of 109 patients are admitted to government-run hospitals in the district with 32 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 18 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, 16 in Holy Family Hospital, four in Red Crescent Hospital, two each in Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Memorial Trust Hospital and Bilal Hospital as well as 35 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 23 patients were on ventilator, 27 needed oxygen and 59 were stable. He said recovery of patients was increasing as 332 had been discharged from hospitals and ended home isolation on Monday after their laboratory tests came back negative.

He said 15,652 people tested positive, including 1,091 in Attock, 1,072 in Jhelum and 510 in Chakwal, adding that 14,056 had recovered in the four districts out of whom 11,789 were in Rawalpindi, 930 in Attock, 923 in Jhelum and 414 in Chakwal.

He said 665 people lost their lives in Rawalpindi Division - 555 in Rawalpindi, 26 in Attock, 22 in Jhelum and 62 in Chakwal.

Islamabad

As many as 117 more people were diagnosed with Covid-19 on Monday.

Officials of the capital administration told Dawn that the number of positive cases on a single day had dropped but the positivity rate increased again on Monday to 4.5pc from 3.1pc on Sunday.

Around 126 cases were reported on Sunday.

As many as 2,560 tests were conducted in the capital out of which 155 were contacts of positive cases while 2,405 were other suspected patients, the officials said.

Around 36 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by 13 from E-11, six from Bhara Kahu, five each from G-6, G-13, F-8 and F-10, four each from F-6, I-10 and G-5, three each from Rawat, G-11, G-7, F-11 and I-9, two each from G-10, Tarlai, G-9, G-8, Khanna, F-7, Model Town Humak and F-15 and one from I-8, Chak Shahzad, Alipur, Koral, Tarnol, E-9 and D-18.— Additional reporting by Munawer Azeem
