LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Wednesday demanded technical allowance for teacher engineers working in engineering universities of the province.

UET Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar wrote to the secretary of regulation technical allowance is being paid to all engineers working in Punjab province. The governor has allowed Technical Allowance at 1.5 times of the initial Basic Pay Scales to engineers registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council and holders of engineering degree from the accredited engineering programs of higher education institutions duly recognized by the Higher Education Commission.

“The Board of Governors in its 34th meeting has approved Training Allowance equal to one basic pay per month frozen on basic pay scale 2015 for all engineering faculty members of Government Engineering Academy Punjab, Lahore in addition to their normal salary and other allowances with immediate effect”, the letter reads.

“The teaching engineers are more qualified than the field engineers and perform many engineering activities in addition to teaching and research. The total yearly financial impact of Technical Allowance at the rate of the one basic salary to all engineers working in all UETs of the Punjab Province is worked out as Rs.524.397 million.”

He requested the governor to approve the allowance at the rate of the basic salary to all engineers, including teachers of UETs of the Punjab perpetual to the engineers working in various engineering departments of the Punjab.

The vice chancellor also requested to grant funds accordingly on a perpetual basis.

SEMINAR: The Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies and the Institute of Global Studies College of Liberal Arts Shanghai University, China, on Wednesday held a lecture to celebrate the 70th Year of China and Pakistan diplomatic relations.

PU Pakistan Study Centre Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi delivered lecture on “Seven Decades of Sino-Pak Relations; A Flourishing Friendship”.

Mr Magsi called Sino-Pak friendship multi dimensional ranging from diplomatic to defense and economic ties and said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor being the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative speaks volumes of the strength of the mutual friendship.

He said the majority of the population of Pakistan was directly or indirectly linked with agriculture and there was a need to enhance mutual cooperation in the field of agriculture to break the shackles of poverty.

He said establishment of Special Economic Zones with relocation of industries from China under the second phase of CPEC would provide vast potential for the job creation and economic activity in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the PU Examinations Department has issued revised written examination date sheets of BA/BSc & Associate Degree in Arts/Science, Part-I, Part-II annual examination 2020.
