KARACHI: Encroachment removal operation along the Mehmoodabad nullah continued on Wednesday for the third consecutive day as approximately 5.5km area was evacuated.

Area of Manzoor Colony Fire Station to Korangi would be widened with the help of heavy machinery in coming days.

City Administrator Laeeq Ahmed visited the Mehmoodabad-Manzoor Colony nullah accompanied by Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and other officials concerned.

He reviewed the anti-encroachment operation and passed directives to officials. Mr Ahmed said that the people were facing hardships due to litter and they were living in unhealthy environment. He said that the road would be constructed around the nullah and the area would soon present a different picture.

He said that it was welcome that area residents cooperated with the administration as some people razed their illegally raised structures themselves. He said that operation would be completed in a few days.

The administrator said that the encroachments were being removed on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and KMC’s anti-encroachment department, katchi abadi department, land department, municipal services, city wardens and others were taking part in the operation.
