MUZAFFARGARH: Two minor girls were set ablaze and as many others suffered burns over a marriage dispute here on Thursday in Leshariwala locality, some 30-km from city area.

Reports said Hafiz Abdul Hameed along with his family was asleep when suspect Fida Hussain and his accomplices entered the house, held the couple hostage and set ablaze their four children. Their two daughters Urwa (2) and Uswa succumbed to their burns on the spot while two others were shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

The suspects thrashed Hameed and his wife when they sought help from neighbours.

Some months back, Hameed had contracted a second marriage with Fida’s daughter. Hameed had divorced suspect’s daughter after a punchayat ordered so last week.

Fida nurtured a grudge and attacked the family of Hameed on Thursday.

Police have registered a case against Fida and three others under sections 302, 148, 149, 324 and 436 of PPC and Anti-Terrorism Act (7-ATA) and arrested the main suspect and two others.

ARRESTED: The district police officer claimed on Thursday to have arrested two men with 56 kilo hashish in Chowk Karam Dad Qureshi area.

WORKSHOP: A two-day workshop for journalists was held at Muzaffargarh under the aegis of Sycope with the financial assistance of Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability.

The trainers spoke about reporting of coronavirus pandemic. More than a dozen journalists attended the workshop.
