RAWALPINDI: The construction work on Daducha Dam was formally launched on Thursday by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) after locals ended their protest on administration’s assurance that their demands would be fulfilled.

Last week, the construction work on dam was stopped by the local residents while demanding to increase the compensation money, rehabilitation of the locals and other benefits.

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq held meeting with the landholders and sent proposals to Punjab government with the solution of their two demands.

In the meantime, the landholders’ representative allowed starting the work on construction of dam.

On Thursday, a ceremony was also held in this regard. Assistant Commissioner (AC) Saddar Mehar Ghulam Abbas Haral, Small Dams Organization and other departments’ officials attended the ceremony.

Following the orders of commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood, a heavy contingent of police was also deployed on the site to avoid any untoward incident and to maintain law and order situation.

Later on, during a pre-work meeting of contractor staff it was discussed that diversion (flow pipe) and spill way would be built on the dam in the first phase.
