KHYBER: The Khyber police on Wednesday recovered a huge quantity of heavy arms in Bara tehsil.

Briefing mediapersons, district police officer Mohammad Iqbal said that miscreants had concealed the arms and ammunition underground in Yousuf Talab locality of Sipah, which the police unearthed on a tip-off.

He said the seizure included 137 rocket launchers, 179 anti-aircraft guns, 30 mortar shells, 27 artillery rounds and three Russian-made rockets.

DPO Iqbal said that the police teams had been constituted to trace the culprits.

Meanwhile, the National Logistics Cell staff seized fake Afghan currency during routine checking at Torkham on Wednesday, and also arrested a currency dealer.

Officials said an Afghan national, Aftab, was carrying 198,500 Afghan currency in his personal belongings while going back to his country.

Meanwhile, slow customs clearance of export and Afghan Transit Trade goods at Torkham hampered the flow of traffic across the border, transporters complained on Wednesday.

They said that hundreds of loaded trucks remained stranded on Pakistan side along the Peshawar-Torkham Highway at several locations, resulting in congestion at the border crossing.

They demanded accelerated goods clearance.
