ISLAMABAD: The scrutiny committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan has finally received from scheduled banks the details of accounts maintained by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the committee will tally them from the details the party has provided to the ECP.
This was disclosed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Farrukh Habib while talking to reporters after brief proceedings of the foreign funding case against the PPP on Thursday.
He claimed that many undeclared accounts would be discovered as a result of a comparative analysis of the record received from the banks and the details the PPP had submitted to the committee.
He said that all details of the PPP’s accounts would be displayed through a projector at the next meeting of the committee.
PTI’s Farrukh accuses PPP, PML-N, JUI-F of receiving foreign funding
He said that both the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had repeatedly been asked by the committee to disclose their funding sources, but they did not submit their complete records, including receipts. He claimed that these funds were received in kickbacks from contractors.
Mr Habib alleged that the foundation of foreign funding had been laid by Nawaz Sharif by getting funds from slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
He said the PPP had been disowning a limited liability company (LLC) incorporated in the United States, but claimed that it had recently conceded before the company that the PPP LLC belonged to the party.
He said it had now been found out that the office of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) in Peshawar had been established using funding received from Libya. He asked the ECP to summon Maulana Sherani and Hafiz Hussain Ahmad to get details of the party’s foreign funding.
Meanwhile, sources in the PPP said that the party had submitted details of all the seven accounts maintained by it to the committee which could get them verified.
