TAXILA: Provincial Special Education Secretary Javed Iqbal Bukhari on Saturday announced a degree college for special students in district Attock.

He was addressing as a chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of special education centre near Mansar in Attock.

He said proper education and training facilities could help special children useful citizens of the society.

The centre has been established at the cost of Rs90 million.

The land for the centre was donated by local philanthropist retired Col Shahid Jameel.

Mr Bukhari said the Punjab government had taken a number of steps for the rehabilitation of special children.

He said that during the last two years, 14 different special education institutes were upgraded.

He expressed his commitment that the special education department would be gradually developed in accordance with modern facilities and requirements.

He said no sector could grow without the private sector’s help. “The government, people and private sector will have to launch a joint struggle for provision of basic facilities to people,” he said.

He said the government would encourage NGOs and philanthropists for participating in in public welfare projects.

Deputy commissioner Ali Anann Qammar while speaking on the occasion said the care of children born with special needs is a joint responsibility of the government and the society.

He added that special people owned immense potential, if they were given an opportunity, they could do a lot.
