TAXILA: Punjab Minister for social welfare and Baitul Mal Syed Yawar Abbas on Monday the Attock district would be provided a football ground of international level.

He was addressing sportsmen of the district at the concluding ceremony of an inter-district football tournament in Attock on Monday.

He said the Punjab government was pursuing a comprehensive programme for the promotion of sports and a network of sports grounds is being laid all over the province.

The minister said sports played an important role in polishing the youth and public representatives of the area were taking all possible steps for its promotion.

He said under the Annual Development Programme for the fiscal year 2020-21, four mega multimillion sports projects would be completed in the district which includes construction of hockey and cricket stadiums in Attock city with an estimated cost of Rs131.364 million, development of a football ground in Pindigheb, costing Rs32.425 million, construction of Cricket Ground with Floodlights at Shaheed Shuja Khanzada Degree College Hazro with an estimated cost of Rs74.75 million and development of Cricket Ground at Village Kot Chhaji Tehsil Jand with an estimated cost of Rs74.75 million.

He further said millions of rupees were spent on renovation of hockey stadium in the city where a fine quality Astroturf would be laid.

He said this stadium would surely help in promotion of the national game at district level while efforts were on to establish a football ground.

He said that four new subjects at master level had also been introduced in the Postgraduate College Attock after approval from Punjab Higher Education Commission and classes would be commenced from next academic session.
