LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has waived one-year tuition fee worth Rs325 million of more than 100,000 students due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Punjab Minister for Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal has announced the waiver of the tuition fee at a meeting at the Tevta secretariat on Tuesday. Tevta chairperson Ali Salman Siddique was present.
He said the initiative was taken to support the students and ensure provision of technical education in the province. He said the finance and development committee had taken the decision and they were thankful to Punjab Minister for Finance Hashim Jawan Bakht for his keen interest in this matter.
Mr Iqbal explained that the tuition fee of sessions 2020-21 was waived for regular students enrolled in 400 Tevta institutes. He said the country was facing a financial crunch and this decision would benefit the parents (of students) who were already facing problems. He said the government would fulfill its responsibility towards providing skill-based education and training to the students and it would also help them economically.
