SWABI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started model prep classes for boys and girls in the Swabi schools, sources in the education department told Dawn here on Tuesday.
They said these classes were meant to modernise learning and strengthen base of the students of public sector schools.
The sources said there would be total of 200 model classes in the district, 100 each for girls and boys, adding the first model class had been started at a school in Dagai village of Razaar tehsil. They maintained that model prep classes would be initiated in majority of schools of Razaar, the home town of minister for elementary and secondary education Shahram Khan Tarakai.
When contacted, a teacher of the model class, said they had started the initiative a week ago with eight students enrolled initially. He said 22 more students would be enrolled soon.
To a question, he said the model class was different from traditional one as the former only focused on practical work like telling the pupils how to hold a pencil and do different colours.
He said the students from four to six years of age would be enrolled.
An official of education department told Dawn that teaching activities at the model classes would be strictly monitored. He said training to the teachers conducting these classes had also been imparted to them.
Separately, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a loaded container in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate on Tuesday, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Saifullah hailing from Manki village of Chota Lahor.
Gadoon Estate police station registered an FIR against the container driver.
