RAWALPINDI: Two women were shot dead in Rawalpindi and Chakwal on Wednesday.

Mohammad Attique, a resident of Allahabad, lodged a complaint with Race Course police, stating that he was informed about his sister’s murder. He said he and his brothers went to her house in Dhoke Banaras and found her dead. According to the victim’s husband, his wife, Naheeda Taj, was alone at home when she was shot by unidentified persons.

The victim’s husband said the family had no enmity. On the other hand, in Chakwal, a 30-year-old woman was found murdered in her house, where she had been living alone after the death of her parents, police said.

The incident took place in Dhairmond village located in the jurisdiction of Tamman police station. Mumtaz Hussain, brother-in-law of the deceased, told police that he went to her house in the morning only to find it locked from the outside.

The woman was also not responding to phone calls.

Afterwards, he said, he, his son and elder sister-in-law visited the house again and his son climbed the wall and opened the gate from inside. They found the victim lying dead in a room inside the house.

A police official told Dawn that the deceased owned eight kanals of land along with her house. “It seems she had been murdered by her own relatives. Anyhow, we would trace the killer soon,” he said, adding it was yet to be ascertained whether she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. Further investigation is underway.
