HYDERABAD, Oct 11: Hyderabad Development Authority Labour Union has appealed to the Governor of Sindh, provincial minister for finance, other officials, the HAD Director-General and the Managing Director of Water and Sewerage Authority to immediately make payment of two months salaries of HDA employees for the month of August and September.
In a written communication addressed to the Director-General of the Hyderabad Development Authority and the Managing Director of Water and Sewerage Authority with copies to the Sindh Governor and other authorities concerned, the general secretary of the union, Mohammad Yousuf, said that the employees were suffering due to non-payment of salaries during the holy month of Ramazan.
He pointed out that salaries of the employees from grade-1 to 15 for the month of August have been paid whereas the work charge employees and officers above grade-15 were not being paid salaries for August.
He, however, said that all the employees have not been paid their salaries for the month of September. He said the government departments are bound to pay Rs5 to Rs6 million every month towards water charges but they seldom pay their dues.
He said the result is that the government departments owe Rs800 million to WASA. He said, if the government departments were to pay a portion of their outstanding dues, the poor employees would be benefited.
He reminded the authorities that the expenses during the holy month of Ramazan generally increase, and if the employees were not paid salaries, their families would not be able to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
The union leader said that the CBA union and the concerned officials have been repeatedly informed about the predicament of the employees, but all in vain.
He appealed to the authorities to recover the outstanding dues from the government departments and pay the legal dues of the employees.
