KARACHI: A police constable was gunned down in the SITE area late on Thursday night, police said.
They added that Sheraz Khan, 31, was riding a motorbike when armed motorcyclists targeted him at main Khattak Chowk near Metroville and rode away.
He suffered four bullet wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The victim was currently posted at the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell, Sharifabad, after he was transferred from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police.
SITE DSP Shah Jehan Niazi believed that it was an act of targeted killing as the victim had worked against several criminals in his residential area, Frontier Colony.
Another police officer, Pervez Lodhi, pointed out that the victim was instrumental in arrest of three criminals from his area and they were recently released from prison.
The slain policeman had also informed his friends that he was getting threats from the criminals.

He was in plain clothes.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Keamari SSP.
