FAISALABAD, Oct 12: Due to delay caused by the provincial government in posting of the Deputy Inspector General of Jails, the prisoners, employees and visitors have been facing problems.
The office of the DIG, northern zone-II, fell vacant on the retirement of former DIG Nasir Mahmood Warraich on July 3.
As per practice and regulation, proposal for substitution of the officer near retirement is submitted to the high-ups, so that working of the department could not suffer.
According to the home department insiders, the main cause of the delay in posting of a new DIG is caused by the ambition of DIG Warraich, who has connection in the ruling party, for getting the post on contract basis.
DIG Nasir Warraich is a brother-in-law of the main character of the Sonia Naz case, Abdullah Khalid Warraich, who is also said to be using his influence for posting him (Nasir) for another period of two years, on contract.
Meanwhile, additional charge of the post has been given to southern zone DIG Afzal Gujjar. The record of the office of the Faisalabad zone has reportedly been shifted to Multan as a result of which the prisoners, their relatives and prison employees have to face difficulties.
RECOVERED: The local police claimed to have arrested two drug-traffickers and recovered over 80kg of hashish from their hideout here on Wednesday.
A Garah police team raided a house in Thatha Mehboob Shah village and arrested Dost Ali and his woman accomplice Sarwar Bibi. The police team also seized various packets of contraband from their possession.
Police have registered a case against the arrested accused.
TWO KILLED: A constable and another person were killed while four others sustained serious injuries when two groups traded fire in Dijkot here on Tuesday night.
Reports said that Nazir and Bhatti groups had an old enmity. On Tuesday night, members of both the groups opened indiscriminate fire as a result of which Habib Ahmed and constable Ibrahim died instantly. While Farooq and Azam were among the four who sustained injuries.
Police have registered a double murder case and are investigating.
