KARACHI: Brilliant Parbat Kumar overcame stiff challenge from Zubair Raja in the final of men’s singles event at the KC Premier Cables Sindh Ranking Tennis Championships which concluded at Karachi Club on Wednesday. Parbat won 3-6, 6-2. 10-6.

In the juniors under-17 final, Mikaeel Ali Baig beat Muneer Derbari 6-4, 6-1 while in the wheelchair men’s singles final, Fida Hussain beat Mohammad Ayub 4-1.

Mikaeel also won the juniors under-13 title by beating Samer Zaman 4-1, 4-0. The under-11 final was won by Shehzer Ali who beat Abdul Wahab 4-2,4-2.

Farhan Altaf and Rizwan Khan beat Asad Ali Bhagat and Nomi Qamar 9-7 in the men’s doubles final while Raahim Veqar and Farzan Ahmed cruised past Mikaeel Ali and Mohammad Ibrahim 8-4 in under-17 doubles.

Asad Ali Bhagat and Nomi Qamar beat Muhammad Iltifat and Sher Ahmed 8-1 in the 35-plus doubles final while the 60-plus doubles final was clinched by Zafar Hasan and Jamil Khan who beat Karim Gul Agha and Noorullah Dhani 8-6.

Dr, Najam Qureshi, Abdul Hafeez Memon, Shoaib Ismail, and special international athlete Jasmin Sharif were the guests of honor at the finals. Asif Ismail, CE Premier Cables in his speech emphasised on providing permanent jobs to all emerging and promising players to ensure their continuity in their respective sports.

Former Secretary Karachi Club Javed Karim announced to hold another tennis tournament later this year at the venue. Gulzar Firoze, President Sindh Tennis Association congratulated the Club management and for holding a successful tournament which attracted 200 plus entries in various events including the wheelchair event.

Khalid Rehmani, vice president Pakistan Tennis Federation highlighted that Karachi Club produced superb tennis players including Altaf Hussain, Asian Games silver medalist and Davis Cupper Asad Ali Bhagat, ex-Junior Pakistan number one Sana Bhagat, ladies champion, Koko Dawood and others.
