HARIPUR: At least five persons were injured, three of them critically, in two road accidents in Khanpur tehsil here on Saturday.

The police and rescue sources said a jeep on its way to Khanpur from Muslimabad area plunged into a gorge near the Beesbun village, injuring three passengers, including the driver.

They were shifted to the Khanpur Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The injured were identified as Mehrban, Haqnawaz and Raja Ansar.

The second accident was reported on Khanpur-Taxila Road when a recklessly-driven motorcycle collided with a rickshaw near Tofkiyan village. Malik Arsalan, the bike rider, and Tahir, a passenger from the rickshaw, were injured.

They were also shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Also, a honeybee keeper was found slaughtered in Baka village, police said on Saturday.

Police quoted Mohammad Wali, an Afghan refugee from Camp No 20 as saying that his younger brother, Yar Wali, 37, was serving at a private honeybee farm near the Baka village.

On Friday evening, he said when he failed to get back home they contacted him on his mobile phone, but he could not be reached.

However, the complainant said when they approached the owner and also visited the bee farm they found Yar Wali lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit.

The police shifted the slain to the Haripur Trauma Centre, and registered a murder case against unknown assailants as the family did not charge anyone directly with the killing.
