SWABI: The construction of Bada dam here in Gadoon Amazai belt is expected to be completed by end of this year, sources in the communication and works department told Dawn.

Bada dam is one of the three dams in the area; Kundal Dam has already been completed while Utla dam is under construction, which the sources said might be completed by end of next year.

MPA Rangaiz Khan said that these dams would bring a green revolution in the region. He said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leadership had been taking great interest in development of this area.

He recalled that construction of Bada dam was inaugurated by then chief minister Pervez Khattak in February 2018.

Sources in the agriculture department said that after completion of the dam over 3,000 acres of arid land in the area would be irrigated and it would give a great boost to agricultural production.

The dam would also prove helpful in provision of drinking water to the area people who had been facing water shortage, especially during summer.

The sources said the area was often hit by flash floods and many routes remained closed due to overflowing streams. He said the problem would not occur after construction of these dams in Gadoon Amazai.

Meanwhile, All Goods Transporters and Owners Association, KP, threatened to hold a wheel jam strike against what they called unjust fines imposed on them by police.

Addressing a press conference, the association members said that they wanted resolution of their issues through peaceful means, but if the police failed to give a positive response they would go for an indefinite strike.
