LAHORE: A special court for gender-based violence on Tuesday handed down 22-year imprisonment to a man on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

Presiding Judge Jamshed Mubarik announced the verdict in the presence of convict Muhammad Munawar.

Faisal Town police had registered the first information report on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

The prosecution presented eight witnesses in addition to DNA report to prove the involvement of the convict in the crime.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs1.2 million on the convict.
