SWABI: Robbers looted over Rs6 million and gold jewellery from a house in Shahmansoor Township here on Thursday night, the police said.
Ishtiaq Ahmad, the house owner, told the Zaida police that sixarmed robbers with their faces covered entered his residence, and locked up the women, children and his brother in a room. “One of the robbers watched over the inmates while the others started a search of the house which continued for about 40 minutes,” he said.
The complainant told the police that the robbers collected Rs6.4 million cash, 18 gold tola ornaments worth about Rs2 million, a laptop, garments and various other items. He said the robbers also snatched cell phones from the inmates.
The police have registered an FIR against the robbers and started further investigations.
The incident prompted the township association members to bitterly criticise the police for failing to curb robberies.
Dr Gul Mohammad, patron-in-chief of the association, said:”We want the Swabi Development Authority (SDA) to provide adequate security to the dwellers of the township.”
The incident also sparked a protest demonstration by the residents of the township.
LAID TO REST: DIG investigations Mohammad Yamin Khan was laid to rest with full official honour in his ancestral graveyard here on Friday.
Mr Yamin passed away on Thursday evening due to cardiac arrest. Religious scholar Maulana Noorul Hadi led the funeral prayers in Shahmansoor.
