KOHAT: Civil society activists have demanded provision of chairs and tables for the classes 6th to 8th of the government girls high school No 2 as the students have to sit on the ground even in winter to take classes.

In separate statements here on Friday, Bilal Ahmed, a member of the Sons of Kohat, and Mohammad Jani, chairman of the blood donors association, regretted that there were no facilities available for the students in the government schools.

They said provision of facilities in government schools should be the top priority of the lawmakers.

They said broken latrines, absence of playgrounds and shortage of staff was affecting the education in public sector schools. They said if the government did not provide furniture to the school they would stage a protest.

SUSPECTED KILLER HELD: The police on Friday arrested brother of a transvestite individual for his murder.

A statement issued from the DPO office on Friday said on March 1 body of 18-year-old Mohammad Farman was recovered from a street in Merozai area. His father Waheed Ahmed had nominated unknown persons for the murder in the FIR.

However, a team constituted by DPO Sohail Khalid under SHO Fayyaz Khan of Riaz Shaheed police station investigated the case and arrested Roman Ahmed, a brother of the deceased.

During interrogations the suspect told the police that a year ago Farman had shifted to Swabi where he danced in weddings and other parties and uploaded videos on social media, which angered the family. He disclosed that he had called his brother to Kohat under the pretext of discussing an important matter, and shot him dead near his house with a gun. The police obtained physical remand of the suspect from court.

TRAFFIC MESS: Taking serious notice of traffic mess in the city bazaars and wheelie the district police officer sent 18 traffic wardens to the police lines and immediately ordered their replacements on Friday.

The transporters, including rickshaw and van drivers, had been complaining the wardens fined them heavily.

A statement issued on Friday said the traffic wardens had failed to curb wheelie which was rampant in KDA and on the bypass road and the Indus Highway. It said the new traffic wardens had been deputed to their new assignments.
