Youth Hockey Club clinch Moenjodaro event on golden goal

KARACHI: Youth Hockey Club Karachi edged Larkana Hockey Club on golden goal in penalty shootout to win the Moenjodaro Inter-club Hockey tournament at the Larkana Hockey Stadium recently.

Both the teams were tied 1-1 in the regulation time and again scored one goal each in the penalty shootout session. But then Nadeem Akram scored the golden goal for Karachi Youth Club to win the tournament.

Earlier, Muslim Jatoi scored the first goal for Larkana but Karachi left-winger Wahab Sheikh equalized for the Youth Hockey Club.

The tournament was organised by Larkana Hockey Association in collaboration with Sindh Sports Department. GM Sindh Women’s Hockey and Minister Sindh Women Development, Shehla Raza graced the occasion as the chief guest while Secretary Sports Sindh Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah was the guest of honour. The captain of the winning team Shazaib Khan received the trophy from the guests after the final.

Imtiaz Ali shah announced a cash price of rupees Rs 200,000 for the victorious team and Rs 100,000 for the runners-up besides rupees 50,000 for the best player of the tournament Abdullha Sheikh of Karachi Youth Hockey Club.

Organising secretary Akbar Qaimkhani said he is delighted that Moenjodaro Cup took place in Larkana.
