HYDERABAD: Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan outplayed Heera Ashiq in straight sets to enter semi-finals while Mohammad Abid, Shoaib Khan and Muzammil Murtaza also advanced by beating their opponents in the Hyderabad Gymkhana Pakistan Day Tennis Championships in front of a sizeable crowd at the newly painted courts of Hyderabad Gymkhana on Saturday.

Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Secretary Sports Government of Sindh.

Men’s singles (quarter-finals):

Aqeel Khan bt Heera Ashiq 6-1, 6-0; Muhammad Abid bt Mudassir Murtaza 6-3, 6-1; Shoaib Khan bt Parbat Kumar 6-2, 6-4; Muzammil Murtaz bt Anas Khan 6-3, 6-2

Men’s doubles (quarter-finals): Muzammil Murtaza +Mudassar Murtaza bt Parbat Kumar + Imran Bhatti 2-6, 6-4, 10-5; Muhammad Abid+Heera Ashiq bt Nauman Aftab +Israr Gul 6-1, 6-0; Umar Kazi +Saad Baloch bt Asadullah Khan +Ejaz Ahmed Khan 6-2, 6-2; Aqeel Khan +Shoaib Khan bt Nadir Bachani +Asif Bachani 6-1, 6-2.
