Efforts underway to include canal project in CPEC

PESHAWAR: The technical and financial evaluation for feasibility study, engineering design and PC-I of the Chashma Right Bank Lift Canal (CRBC) has been completed.

During a progress review meeting of the project, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was informed that once completed the CRBC would prove a game changer for the agriculture sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was told that efforts were underway to include CRBC in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, according to a statement issued here on Sunday.

The meeting was informed that projects of Swat Motorway’s phase-II and Dera Ismail Khan Motorway had also been proposed for inclusion in CPEC.

The meeting discussed progress so far made on various projects.

Provincial Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, additional chief secretary Shakeel Qadir and administrative secretaries of the departments concerned attended the meeting.

It was informed that the Public Private Partnership Committee had approved carrying out commercial and financial feasibility of the phase-II of the Swat Motorway and that land for the project was being acquired. Besides, technical and financial evaluation of the bids received for the project was also in process.

The meeting was informed that feasibility study of the proposed 365km Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway project had been completed and PC-1 of the project had been cleared by the Provincial Development Working Party.

Similarly, work on feasibility study of the Barang tunnel in Bajaur district was underway, and PC1s of the tunnel and the 50km Dir motorway would be finalised soon.

About 60 per cent work had been completed on the construction of 18.325km bypass road from Ayub Bridge Havelian to Dhamtoor Abbottabad.
