BAHAWALNAGAR: A man who was injured in a March 8 robbery in Minchanabad died on Monday.

Three gunmen had held up a grocery store in Minchinabad, killed owner Muhammad Din for resisting, and left six other people, including Din’s son Naveed, injured.

Of them, Naveed died on Monday at the Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur.

Also, robbers struck Ganga Ram Hospital Senior Medical Officer Dr Riaz Ahmed’s residence in Jahangir Town late on Sunday.

Dr Riaz’s son Salman Riaz told the B Division Police that six gunmen stormed their medical laboratory established in the front portion of their home. They held lab attendant Zeshan hostage and entered the home.

They looted 20-tola gold jewellery, mobile phones and Rs150,000 and fled in a car.

The B-Division police registered an FIR on Monday, however, they mentioned four robbers in the FIR.

The B-Division SHO claimed the FIR was registered as per the complaint.

Also, in Basti Khalilabad, eight gunmen struck the house of Mustafa and Suba Arayein and took away cash and mobile phones.

Locals said they called 15 but the police did not show up.

Similarly, in Chak Hafizwala area in the Saddar police limits, Haneef Bodla’s home was also broken into by the armed men who fled with Rs50,000 and jewellery.

The B-Division police said they had no knowledge about the robberies in Khalilabad, whereas the Saddar police did not respond to calls.

Two days ago, the Private Schools Association members also held a protest who alleged that some officials of the police were in cahoots with criminals and demanded the Punjab IG take notice of the robbery wave.
