Second suspect in SHO assassination case also killed

RAWALPINDI: Police on Tuesday claimed to have also killed the second suspect in the murder case of Racecourse SHO Inspector Mian Imran Abbas during an ‘encounter’ at a checkpoint in Westridge.

Now both the suspects in the murder case have been killed in police encounters.

A police spokesman said the suspect was identified as Chaudhry Zahid who along with his accomplice Chaudhry Shahid Amjad had shot dead the SHO. Amjad was killed during an encounter with the police on March 12,

He said the suspect had already been declared as a proclaimed offender in the murder case registered with the Chontra police, and had a criminal record.

After being alerted about the exchange of fire between the police and the suspect, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) operations and the SSP investigation along with other officials reached the spot along with reinforcement.

The spokesman said the accomplices and facilitators of the two suspects would be arrested soon.

The body of the suspect was shifted to hospital for a postmortem.

On Monday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani visited the family of the martyred SHO and expressed his condolence with his family.

The IGP while talking to the mother of the SHO said the Punjab police shared her grief over the martyrdom of her son. She also endured the martyrdom of her husband SI Mohammad Abbas.

The IGP said their sacrifices are a source of pride for the police.
