HYDERABAD: Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan was the star of the day as he first outplayed Shoaib Khan 6-2, 6-2 in the final to win mens singles title and then partnered Shoaib to win the the doubles title by beating the pair of brothers Muzammil Murtaza, and Mudassir Murtaza 6-4, 6-4 at the inaugural Hyderabad Gymkhana Pakistan Day Men’s Tennis Championships which concluded on Monday.

Brig. Kashif Chodhery,Station Com­mander Hyderabad, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and distributed cash prizes worth Rs 200,000 plus trophies and certificates among the winners.Sarjl Kharal, DIG Hyderabad was the guest of honor.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Zulfiqar Yousfani, Sports convener Hyderabad Gymkhana, thanked country’s top players for their participations and the sponsors, especially Secretary Sports Govt of Sindh Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah and DIG Sharjeel Kharal for their kind patronage of the tennis event.

He also announced to hld same tournament next year with more attractive cash prizes.

Khalid Rehmani, Vice President Pakistan Tennis Federation, appreciated the efforts of Hyderabad Gymkhana and of Saad Baloch and Hasan Kamal for their untiring efforts to make the event a complete success.

Also present on the occasion was Salim Qureshi, President Hyderabad Gym­khana. An exhibition doubles match , fireworks and live music was also part of the closing ceremony.
