HYDERABAD, Oct 16: The University of Sindh on Sunday conducted a test for admission to master’s degree programme for the academic session-2006 at the Allama I.I. Kazi campus Jamshoro.

A total of 1,589 candidates (461 girls and 1,128 boys) appeared in the test for admission to 45 disciplines of the faculties of arts, commerce and business administration, natural sciences, education, pharmacy, social sciences and Islamic studies.

The test was conduced by the Testing Centre for Admissions and Employment of the university.

The university administration had adopted strict security measures on the occasion.

Senior faculty members of the university checked admit cards of candidates at the main entrance of the Arts Faculty building while all blocks were interconnected with modern sound communication network.

Instructions to candidates were given from the control room in Sindhi, Urdu and English languages by the announcement committee comprising faculty members Prof Farida Panhwar, Dr Marhab Qasimi and Prof Mahmood Mughal.

Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui welcomed them through sound system communication network from the control room.

He said the university was providing most modern facilities to its students for higher education.

The vice-chancellor accompanied by the deans of various faculties, members of the senate and syndicate visited all examination blocks and monitored the arrangements.

The university also provided the transport facility through its point buses to candidates and their parents.

A total of 1,269 candidates had submitted admission forms for master’s programme last year while 1,203 had appeared.

The result of the aptitude test will be announced within 24 hours and posted at Sindh University’s website www.usindh.edu.pk.

HESCO: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has completed many schemes in different districts of Sindh under instructions of the prime minister and schemes identified by the government, members of national and provincial assemblies and senators.

According to the details released by the Hesco project director construction, Mr Habibullah Khilji, the company under the directives of the prime minister, electrified 16 villages at a cost of Rs13.538 million in Tharparkar, Sanghar, Thatta, Dadu and Sukkur districts under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

In Tando Allah Yar, Matiari, Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Naushahro Feroze, Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki and Shikarpur districts, 38 villages were electrified at the cost of Rs18.267 million. The schemes were proposed by the members of the provincial assembly.

On the recommendation of senators, one village was electrified in Badin district at a cost of Rs1.770 million.

On the proposal of members of the National Assembly, 32 electricity schemes were completed at a cost of Rs12.768 million in Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze, Nawabshah and Ghotki districts.

Under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, various schemes were completed in 22 districts of the interior Sindh at a cost of Rs8.556 million.

On the proposals of the district government of Tando Allahyar and Khairpur, two villages were electrified at a cost of Rs0.597 million.

On partial programmes being carried out by Hesco in Sanghar, Thatta, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Ghotki, Larkana and Shahdadkot, 24 villages were electrified at a cost of Rs12.069 million.

About 75 other schemes were completed in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad districts at a cost of Rs15.951 million.

Under the government deposit work, five schemes were completed at a cost of Rs0.706 million and one village was electrified at a cost of Rs0.634 million in various districts of the interior Sindh.
