ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah on Saturday visited the site of model jail in capital to have a first hand information about the progress.

During the visit Chief Commissioner Aamir Ali Ahmed gave presentation about the progress on the project.

The federal capital, which has its own police and judicial system, lacks prison, and Islamabad based prisoners are being kept in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.

Spread over 90 acres in Sector H-16, the Islamabad Model Prison, which is expected to cost Rs3.9 billion, will accommodate around 2,000 prisoners.

Conceived in 2011 on the direction of the Supreme Court, the PC-I of the project was approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) in 2016.
