QUETTA: The Balo­chistan government has imposed Section 144 in Quetta district with immediate effect to ban all public gatherings amid a protest sit-in call given by the teachers’ association against the government’s failure to announce any increase in their salaries.

An official notification issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department on Sunday night said the government had imposed the ban on gathering of five or more people in Quetta and other areas of the district due to increasing number of coronavirus cases.

The order came amid the call for the protest sit-in was given by Teachers Association in Quetta against the government for its failure to announce any increase in the teachers’ salaries.

A large number of teachers and other employees of the education department had reached Quetta on Sunday to participate in the protest.
