SWABI: The police arrested a man for allegedly parading his rival naked in the Chota Lahor tehsil of Swabi district here on Saturday.

Chota Lahor city police station SHO Altaf told Dawn that the accused, Shamsul Qamar, was arrested on the complaint of the victim, who belongs to Hund village.

He said Qamar forcibly brought the victim to his hujra, where he stripped him naked in the presence of other people and forced him to parade naked.

The motive behind the incident was to take revenge for the alleged insult of a woman of Qamar’s family by the victim a few days ago.

SHO Altaf said that the victim, who belongs to a poor family, first did not want to register an FIR, but when district police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan, taking notice of the incident, directed immediate arrest of the accused, he got a case lodged with the Chota Lahor police station.

Mr Altaf said that the police had arrested the accused after registration of the case.

Separately, Topi tehsil assistant commissioner Mehran Khan sealed several shops over violation of coronavirus SOPs.

Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, he said that the business community had strictly been directed to follow precautions in view of the rapidly spreading coronavirus.

He said the traders who violated the SOPs would not be allowed to run their businesses and would also face fines.
