NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The people of Saidgi area here called off their protest over the killing of a local man after the local administration promised compensation to the aggrieved family on Monday.

The people had staged a sit-in outside the Miramshah Press Club after the killing of Zahiduddin, belonging to Saidgi area, near the Afghan border on Sunday.

The ISPR in a statement had claimed that Zahid was an active member of the proscribed TTP and was involved in attacks on security forces. It said Zahid was killed during a ‘sanitisation operation’ in the area.

Following the killing, local people staged a protest, and also clashed with the security forces. Five people including two security personnel were wounded.

The residents claimed Zahid was a law-abiding citizen and was not involved in any criminal activity.

After the talks with the organisers of the sit-in, the body of the deceased was handed over to the family.

Elders claimed the authorities declared that Zahid was killed by mistake and his family would be compensated.

The deputy commissioner and other officials of the district administration were not available for comment.
