CHINIOT: Residents, including lawyers, of Tehsil Chowk area have criticised the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company after a transformer exploded, killing three people on Sunday.

Babur Ali (18) of Mohallah Toheedabad, Tariq Nawab Salotra Advocate of Chak 12-JB and Abdul Razzak of Chak 12-JB succumbed to their burns at Allied Hospital. They were injured in a transformer explosion near tehsil courts.

On Monday, an emergency meeting of district bar held with president Fateh Sher Khokhar in the chair criticised Fesco for installing a ‘faulty’ transformer. They demanded action against the respective officials.

Owing to possible agitation by the lawyers, police beefed up security at Fesco Complex on Lahore Road and a heavy contingency was deployed on the main gate. However, the lawyers condoled the death of their colleague and observed a strike.

A Fesco spokesperson said the LPG cylinder of a tea vendor, who was sitting under the transformer, exploded. As a result a fire erupted and flames engulfed electricity meters and the transformer.

It merits mentioning that a transformer at Tehsil Chowk near sessions courts exploded, causing injuries to six people and damaging two rickshaws and four motorcycles.
