KASUR: Khudian police on Tuesday lodged a criminal case against its [former] sub-inspector and put him behind bars for allegedly manhandling a woman and abuse of power during a raid at a seminary on Monday at Ghousia Sabri Colony.

On Monday, following a call at 15 that armed suspects had broken the locks of the seminary and were illegally occupying the building, Khudian police reached the spot.

According to police, the suspects resisted and used force against the cops.

As a video of SI Jamil Khan went viral, DPO Imran Kishwar suspended him and ordered an inquiry.

Later, owing to the mounting pressure on social media and criticism of police attitude and tall claims of the government to change ‘thana culture’, the DPO ordered a criminal case against the SI.

On the complaint of SHO Adeel Shoukat, Khudian police lodged a case against former SI Jamil Khan under section 155-C of police order 2002 (police officer guilty of breach of any provision of law), and 354 (use of criminal force against any woman intending to outrage her modesty) of Pakistan Penal Code.

A police press release said there were two lady constables with the raiding team but they failed to perform their duty and ‘attacker’ woman Khadija was manhandled by policemen. The release, however, was silent whether the lady constables were punished or not for neglecting their duty.

The DPO also ordered the arrest and detention of former SI Jamil Khan.

Further investigation is underway.
